![]() While the reason for fighting a war is usually only 1 province (county) at the end of the war you can take loads of land depending on how much you kicked the AIs butt. In addition wars have a lot of diplomatic depth compared to CK2. Everyone in the game wants to get bigger, and the AI does a good job of making you hate life if you show signs of weakness. ![]() If CK2 was a game about your dynasty, controlling vassals and expanding, EU4 is all about expansion. You have really big penalties if you fail to manage your empire (bankruptcy is almost a gameover) and you also need to organize your army, navy, alliances and now estates too. While not on a level comparable to vicky 2 EU4 is a lot more complex than CK2. While the world of CK2 is certainly decently sized the scale of EU4 is much grater because in addition to a political and religious scene you also have a trade scene, a culture scene, colonization, and just classic size. When I wanted to get into CK2 a year ago someone explained it very well for me: CK2 is a game about people and EU4 is a game about nations. I enjoy both, personally, they're very different despite their similarities, and both really good. It's more war-oriented, and the entire mechanics of war, armies, peace deals and all that lend itself better to this war-heavier game. It also leds itself better to some Full Conversion concepts, if that's your thing, like A Song of Ice and Fire and the Fall of Rome, or even a post-apocaliptic USA.ĮU is 'simpler' in it's concept, you're a Nation, and your main goals are usually to make war and some diplomacy in-between. Currently, /r/CrusaderKings is operating its seventh communal game.īeyond what Itaganon answered, some mechanics are very different, and some interesting mechanics are (sometimes ahistorically) CK2 only, like raiding for pagans, norse and others, and crusading or Holy Wars (with the exception of the League Wars).Īlso, the timeperiod of CK2 may be more interesting to you, with Vikings, Charlemagne, beggining of the HYW, Mongol Invasions, rise of the Merchant Republic in the Mediteranean and the Balcans, a Bizantine Empire in it's apex and possible restoration of the Roman Empire, and so forth.
